This summer has been filled with so many fun outdoor activities I’m beside myself. I love it! We’ve been on hikes, we’ve been swimming, exploring, splash parks, playgrounds, and just plain enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. We’re making wonderful memories, but I’d be lying if I said the heat is on my favorite list. I’m more of a cooler weather person. Not winter, that’s too cold. More like decent spring and fall weather. In between the extremes. For this reason I like to partner my hot summer afternoons with a bit of a colder balance. Water balloon fights, playing in the sprinkler and ice cream.
I seriously just took a moment to sigh in satisfaction at the idea of ice cream.
Earlier this week I created the best milkshake I’ve ever made. I think I need an award for this one. Chocolate, caramel and pecans. That’s right, I made a Turtle Milkshake and I enjoyed every last bit of it.
Because it was so amazing, I decided I should share it with you. Why keep this golden recipe to myself. It needs to be enjoyed by the world.
First, grab your ice cream. Not just any ice cream. You’ll want to pick up Blue Bunny® Butter Pecan for this recipe. I also grabbed Blue Bunny® Pistachio Almond and Blue Bunny® Super Fudge Brownie® because the new clear containers drew me in.
I love that you can see the color of the ice cream and any fudgy swirls or mix ins the ice cream has. It makes the choice a lot more fun, and honestly, a bit easier because I know exactly what I’m getting when I’m looking to create a new recipe.
For the Turtle Milkshake I also picked up Smucker’s Microwaveable Hot Fudge Topping and Smucker’s Sundae Syrup Caramel Flavored Syrup along with a bag of pecan chips. Don’t forget the milk and whipped cream if you want to make the most of this shake.
My ratio is 2 cups of ice cream to one cup of milk. So, into the blender with the ice cream and milk, then for good measure I added a couple of tablespoons of the Smucker’s Microwaveable Hot Fudge Topping before blending. Blend it all until smooth.
Next grab a pint sized mason jar or whatever other glass you are using for your Turtle Milkshake. Drizzle the chocolate and caramel along the sides. This is a nice little nod to the new Blue Bunny containers too. For the Smucker’s Microwaveable Hot Fudge Topping, I did microwave it at this point to give it a better consistency to drizzle. I love the more fudgy flavor and consistency of it for this recipe so that’s why I picked it.
Finally pour in your milkshake and top it all off with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel drizzles and of course some chopped pecans. Yum! Savor every last drop of this amazing milkshake. You can thank me later.
