It’s that time again. I used to dread it; the unorganized mess of cleaning supplies strewn throughout the house. I had to scramble to find the rags I needed, nothing was in its place. I swear, I made more of a mess searching for what I needed than actually doing the cleaning. Not to mention I exerted so much energy gathering all of my supplies I was already over cleaning the bathroom before it began.
Does this sound familiar?
With two bathrooms to clean and four people in the house. Four messy people I should emphasize, cleaning the bathroom could be a disaster. Something no one looked forward to and magically everyone disappeared when it was time to slip on the cleaning gloves. Myself included. I’d be lying if I told you I never once hid from the mess.
I knew things needed to change and it was time to get organized. Since finding the cleaning supplies seemed to be a huge chunk of the battle and one of the most demotivating parts of it, it was the supplies I needed to organize first.
If you haven’t organized your bathroom cleaning supplies, you need to do it now. I am amazed at how much having this cleaning tote has helped me fight my fear of the mess behind bathroom doors. Plus, because it’s a tote I can easily pick it up and clean the other bathroom! Both bathrooms clean in less time than it used to take me to gather everything I needed to clean one!
Here’s how I created my cleaning tote. It’s easy, I promise. Plus you can find everything you need at Dollar General if you don’t already have it at home.
They have a fantastic stock of cleaning supplies from Scrubbing Bubbles® to the rags and brushes you’ll need at Dollar General. Oh, and don’t forget their specials. I love shopping at Dollar General for this stuff because I always find a great price. Check this out, from July 12 through August 2nd, the DG Coupon center has $0.50 off any Scrubbing Bubbles® Bath Product and $1 off any Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Gel Product! That’s not all, so make sure you check it out to see all the specials!
I picked up some Scrubbing Bubbles® cleaners for my bathroom tote; the Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner, Scrubbing Bubbles® Multi Surface Bathroom Cleaner and the Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel. I attribute a lot of my cleaning speed to these cleaners because for me, they work fast. Knowing it’s going to be a fast job gets me more motivated to do it.
First find some soap scum. This used to be easy to find in my house. You know, when everyone hid from the idea of cleaning the bathroom.
Boom. You’re done. Super shiny shower doors, no more soap scum. I’m a happy camper. Seriously, it was so fast I had to tell my husband to slow down on the cleaning so I could get a picture of each step!
Sorry about that little cleaning sidetrack, I was just excited to share with you how easy cleaning my bathroom has become. Let’s get back to the awesome scrub tote I was telling you how to make. After all, because of it I’ve changed my tune on cleaning the bathroom.
I already mentioned picking up some cleaners that are perfect to use in the bathroom, especially the Scrubbing Bubbles® Multi Surface Bathroom Cleaner.
Next we need to fill up the tote with the rest of our supplies.
I added in sponges. Remember to change these out often because they can hold bacteria. Dollar General has them at a great price, so you can stock up and never be found without a sponge when you need one.
If you have curtains in your bathroom a lint roller is a great idea to have on hand. I know a lot of people who never think to use a lint roller on curtains. It works like a charm and makes cleaning up the curtains a lot easier.
Finally, one of the more important items to carry in your tote is a box of small trash bags. I love having these on hand, and if you want to make it even easier on yourself, just drop a few bags in the bottom of your trash can before you put the new trash bag in. Now, you can easily take the trash out and put a new bag on without digging out your cleaning supplies. They’re right there and ready for you. Easy to replenish the stock next time you pull out the tote for a full cleaning.
There you have it! A complete DIY scrub tote full of everything you need to get your bathroom clean, fast and easy. No more searching for the products you need, just pull out your tote, clean up the bathroom and put it away again. The mess behind the bathroom door is taken care of and you’re back to enjoying the rest of your day.
