The perfect amount of mint to make a perfect cup of hot cocoa! Topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. To die for!
My husband came to me the other day letting me know our hot chocolate mix was out.  It doesn’t take long. We love hot chocolate in this house, especially when it starts getting cold out. Our preference is to experiment with ingredients on hand and come up with our own flavors and mixes to warm our hearts and bodies. I decided it was time to come up with a peppermint flavored hot chocolate recipe mix since we hadn’t tried it before.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate Recipe

The perfect amount of mint to make a perfect cup of hot cocoa! Topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. To die for!
Start by finding some peppermint candy canes, you’ll need enough to make about a half cup of crushed peppermint candy. Peppermint disks would work for this recipe too.
Next unwrap all of the candy canes and place them in a ziplock bag and let all your frustration out on it with a meat tenderizer. Use the smooth side of the tenderizer because the rough side would result in a powdery mess when it pokes through the bag.  On that note, pay attention to the bag as you’re pounding on the candy.  The sharp edges created by crushed candy will start to break through the bag and leave a bit of a powdered mess on the counter.

Next, mix up cocoa powder, powdered sugar, a little salt and powdered milk. Run it through the blender to help make a more consistent mix if you want.

Mix in the peppermint powder and you’re ready for a hot steamy cup of chocolaty, minty heaven. Store mix in an airtight container.  If you are a fan of mason jars this mix fits great in a quart sized jar.

Stir approximately two to three tablespoons of mix into a cup of hot water or milk. Let it sit for a minute or two to allow the peppermint pieces to melt down.

Top with marshmallows, whipped cream, mini chocolate chips, peppermint slivers, or anything else you can think of to enhance your chocolaty delight.
Also, this makes a great gift in a jar.  Just decorate the top with fun paper, ribbon and/or fabric and attach a nice note.  Anyone would love to receive this as a gift.
