There are so many things that make me smile in my life. Sometimes these moments are memorable and stick with me for days, weeks or years. Other times they are just those in the moment smiles and they’ve passed soon after. I wanted a way to remember those in the moment smiles a bit better, so I decided to create a Smile Jar.
The smile jar is simple. I just write down any moments, quotes, or ideas that make me smile and drop them in the jar. They’re always in plain sight, so anytime I want to give them a read through I can just sit down and go through the notes and see if I spark a smile.
Decorating the jar was easy. I just grabbed an oversized vase I had on hand for an event a few years back. I wrapped some jute cord around the neck of the vase, then added a few scrapbook stickers.
It came out simple and beautiful. Something to accent my office and helps me keep a record of good memories in a fun way. I have a feeling this jar will fill up fast, so I may have to come up with a way to record all of these memories.
In the mean time, I’ll just enjoy my smile jar for what it is.
Do you have a method of keeping track of your happy memories? I’d love to hear your ideas, please share them in the comments below!
Awesome! Our household does something like this as well. We call in the “Manna Jar” So often we forget that even the little things in life are blessings as well. So we created this jar to reflect on what we’re grateful for, whether big or small. And at the end of the year, we take turns reading all the notes until its empty & celebrate & praise God for all that He has done. You wont regret it. Some of the kids were bummed out that they didn’t have that many to share & were motivated to be more intentional in writing their blessings down this year! Makes my heart happy!
I love the idea of a smile jar! I’ve done a gratitude jar before and it’s was such a great way to remember good things in our lives. A smile jar sounds wonderful too! I think my kids would really enjoy making their own!
I actually started one this year. Looking forward to filling it.
This is so lovely! Such a great idea too. I think I want to implement something like this at home, with my toddler. Once he starts communicating and we can talk about what a good memory is, I can write it and add it to the jar for us to explore at a later time or when he is sad. So I’ll keep this idea you just sparked in my back pocket for a little bit 🙂
I think you could start it now! Kids love routines. Maybe start talking about you good day at the end of the day, you could write down one of your good moments and put it in the jar, then let him tell you one and he can “write” it down. When he gets a little older you can help him even more. I know my kids would have loved this when they were younger in that way.
Love this simple and cute idea!!! A smile jar! It inspires me to make jars for other things, too, like wish list jars 🙂 Thanks for the tip!
