It doesn’t seem possible that it was five years ago today that I was headed to the hospital where I would have this beautiful little baby girl shortly after arrival without the assistance of pain relievers or a doctor for that matter. She’s always been independent and persistent. She proved that the day she was born and hasn’t changed since.
I had her on my own with a small crowd of nurses crowded around me like an audience, pretty much doing nothing. Ok, I’m sure they were doing something, but when you’re in labor, you don’t see those details. From my perspective it pretty much looked like they formed a half circle around me and just stood there with their hands clasped in front of them watching the horrendous beauty of birth happen before their very eyes (I’ve never watched myself giving birth, but I can imagine it wasn’t pretty). Also, I have no idea where my husband was or what he was doing. Yeah, he was there, but I think the lack of pain meds calming me down scared him a bit as he watched me crab walk up the bed while shooting laser beams from my eyes. I’m pretty sure I scared a nurse when I was doing that too, she looked frightened when she walked in the room and left in a hurry.
Alright, I’m sure that’s not the birthday wishes Lena wants to hear about, so it’s a good thing I’m using bigger words than she can read at this point. I’m pretty sure those aren’t the images you wanted in your mind when you opened up this blog post with this cute little now five year old staring up at you grinning. Sorry about that.
Let’s get to the stuff you were expecting, or at least hoping to find here.
How about a selection of pictures of Lena over the years? One thing’s for sure, my photography has improved over the past few years.
Then we move to the baby food era where carrots made it everywhere except inside her mouth. Isn’t she a sweetie?!Let’s not forget her obsession with pacifiers. That’s two pacifiers in her mouth! She was awfully proud of herself for this feat. Actually, it wasn’t much longer after this I asked her if she was ready to be done with pacifiers, she said yes, handed it to me, I put it up and she never asked for one again. Now that was impressive.
We know she loved food and her first taste of powdered donuts was fantastic. I still don’t know how this picture came about. I don’t know if she actually posed for it when I said smile or if I just managed to catch this image on accident. Either way, she’s so flippin’ cute!
Fast forward just a little more and we have her in her Grumpy Bear costume. I swear, she made the best little Care Bear for Halloween.
This was Lena’s fish face. We were doing a spontaneous photoshoot where I was calling out different emotions. I’m not sure if I called out fish face or if I gave her a random emotions, but this was the result. I’m kinda in love with her hair.
Happy Fifth Birthday Lena! This year is going to be awesome!
