A few weeks ago Door to Door Organics contacted me to let me know they’ve expanded their delivery area to Omaha and wanted to know if I would like some complimentary boxes in exchange for getting word out about them. Absolutely! We love fruits and veggies in this household, so this was a partnership I couldn’t pass up.
At this point I’ve received two different boxes. I started with the Bitty Box, then upgraded to the Small Box for the second delivery. All products are organic.
My first delivery included:
- 1 celery
- 1 cucumber
- 4 garlic bulbs
- 1 yellow pepper
- 2 bananas
- 1 yukon gold potato
- 2 oranges
- 2 bartlett pears
- 5 kiwis
I made an unboxing video for you so you can see for yourself the quality of the products and the way the box was packed.
Next is the small box, again, everything is organic. Here’s what I received:
- 1 avocado
- 1 small bag of potatoes
- 1 bunch broccoli
- 1 bag baby rainbow carrots
- 1 bunch red spring onions
- 1 bunch radishes
- 1 yellow onion
- 2 oranges
- 2 fuji apples
- 2 bartlett pears
- 5 bananas
- 3 zucchini
Again, for your viewing pleasure I did an unboxing of the small box since it was a bit bigger to show you what comes in that one.
There are two additional sizes of boxes you can get through Door to Door Organics; medium and large. With all four box sizes you can choose to have a fruit box, vegetable box or a mixed box, which is what we get each time.
Overall I’ve been impressed with the quality of produce. I haven’t received anything with bad spots or mold and everything has been fresh enough to last through the week. I did notice the bananas I received the first time were riper than they were the second time, so it looks like the freshness of the produce depends on the freshness it is when picked up from their supplier. So far they’ve done an excellent job!
Our Door to Door Organics shipment comes out of Kansas City which is about a 2.5 to 3 hour drive (I know, we measure distance in time around here. That’s around 150 miles away give or take). We receive notice on Friday afternoon that our box is ready to be customized and we have until Tuesday evening to make any changes. Then our box is delivered on Wednesday morning. I recently found out that the Omaha area has added on a Friday delivery date option if that works better, and I do believe I read that they’ve expanded to Lincoln as well!
When it comes to changes you are allowed to make up to five substitutions to your order. At this point I haven’t had to make that many changes because everything looks fantastic, but we do get burned out on some things, such as bananas, so for next week we decided to take a break and were able to substitute blood oranges in place of them. If there are any products you know you absolutely don’t like, or absolutely love you can update your produce preferences and Door to Door Organics will do their best to customize your order based on your preferences.
Making changes to our order has been easy. So far we’ve only substituted products but you can also do add ons. It’s also important to mention that you can get more than produce from Door to Door Organics. When your order is ready to customize go through the produce on your order to make any substitutions, then head over to the sidebar and browse through the pantry items, meat and seafood, spices, condiments, bakery, deli and more.
What I love about the customization is that it works great for meal planning. Since you’re given so much advance notice of what’s coming in your box (as opposed to being surprised like many other subscription box services) you can get your meal plan for that week set up. You can add on anything else you need to create the meals you want, or it at least gives you a heads up to go to the store to have things ready before hand.
