I’ve always been a fan of Twitter, but I realized I’m not using it to it’s full potential. Part of that potential is my ability to take the thousands of accounts I’m following and place them into lists for easy access. Ok, I’m not going to put every single person I follow in there, that would take forever, but it’s a nice thought!
What I am going to do is create some specific lists for specific purposes. These purposes will be for my own networking, providing great resources for my followers, and even keeping track of specific followers who are helpful to me.
When you create a new list you have the option of making it public or private. This is great because there are some things I may want to track for my business personally rather than sharing with the public, or I may be creating some fantastic lists for my followers to take advantage of, so I’ll want to have those viewable by the public.
Creating a list is easy. The hardest part is remembering to go back to your lists to access the people you’ve added to them!
If you’re not quite sure what kinds of lists you want to create, I’ll give you some ideas of some of the lists I’m creating.
Retweeters: These are people who have retweeted me. I’m adding them to a private list so I can have them at easy access and share the retweet love.
Friends and Family: Even with all of my wonderful new friends who have followed me or who I’ve followed, there are still people in my life who are close friends and family who I don’t want to miss out on.
Local Resources: I connect with local businesses and organizations. I know I have local followers so this is a great list to keep me up to date as well as my local followers.
Favorite Bloggers: This is a great way to help give some of your favorite bloggers some extra exposure with your followers, not to mention making it easier to find their posts to love on.
Tweeters in your Niche: Find other people who are posting content that is similar to yours that your readers would find interesting. Great place to find content to retweet.
Interest Lists: I created several lists of specific topics I find interesting or that my readers like to see. For me it’s a random mix of things from recipes and crafts, to business tips and motivation.
Your Favorite Brands: If you’re a blogger who wants to partner up with some brands it’s a good idea to keep track of them to see what they’re offering and engage with them.
Fandoms: If you have that one, three or five fandoms you absolutely love, why not keep track of those you follow who share your love for the fandom. You can all geek out together.
Networks you’ve worked with: Keep up on the happenings of your favorite influencer networks by adding them all to a list. Also a great way for other bloggers to find some new networks.
Ultimately lists are a great way for you to keep track of and organize the accounts you want to pay attention to. They’re a great way for your followers to know which accounts inspire you and can be a great resource for them. They’re also a great way for those you add to your lists to engage with you.
Get more subscribers to your lists by sharing them on your feed. Curate your lists and make awesome resources for people and you’re sure to gain some subscribers.

I have had my name added to various lists on Twitter, but have never really created a list myself. This is great way to keep track of those who are important to a person in different ways. Thank you.
