Candy corn partners with pretzels and peanuts for a perfect sweet and salty seasonal treat. I always hear that candy corn is a love it or hate it candy. I’ve never cared for absolutes because I live so much of my life somewhere in the middle. My opinion of this seasonal confection is no different….
Today we tested out some create your own winter fruit art. Not only is it fun to make, it’s fun to eat! It can be holiday themed and makes for a great family activity.
It’s my favorite time of year again! Today is the first day of Fall and I’m celebrating with a delicious apple recipe. Every year we go to the apple orchards to pick apples, unfortunately I wasn’t feeling well on the day we had planned so we didn’t get to go. With the orchard being an hour drive away, I’m happy to report that I can still find a wide variety of apples at Bakers!
My kids and I have a couple of things in common when it comes to food. We love bright colors and we love sweet & salty mixes. Since the girls have been asking for something new to snack on and we have some road trips on the agenda I thought it was time to create something new. This is how Sweet & Salty Rainbow Snack Mix was created.
Walking around Walmart I was trying to decide what to add in. Rainbow popcorn was a must, as were salty snacks such as pretzels and crackers. Cruising down the cereal aisle, I found exactly what I needed. Fruity Pebbles. Not just any Fruity Pebbles, Marshmallow Fruity Pebbles!
The weather is warmer and that means a lot of my favorite produce is in season! You know this means flavor!! No more summer fruits in winter that taste bland, it’s time for bright colors and full, juicy flavor. With summer holidays right around the corner I decided it was time to start creating some new fresh ideas for backyard BBQ’s and holiday celebrations such as Memorial Day and Fourth of July.
We walked into Bakers the other day and were reminded of the awesomeness that is fresh produce this time of year. Right up front they had watermelon samples! The girls love to enjoy watermelon cut into triangle slices, so they weren’t disappointed. Me, I wasn’t disappointed because the color was beautiful and the flavor matched. Yes, it’s time for summer. Watermelon, in the cart. Perfect snack for the kids to munch on while waiting for the grill to heat up their brats. That’s right, my kids want no part of hotdogs, just bring on the brats!
Who doesn’t love caramel apples. Especially those fancy ones you can get at the mall. They cover them in all kinds of things. Different types of chocolate, different crushed candy bars, sprinkles, cookies, nuts, gummy worms, spices and anything else you can think of. Caramel apples these days are a whole lot more than just…
Breakfast is the bane of my existence. Yes, that sounds a bit dramatic, but mornings mixed with food just don’t agree with me. Sometimes it’s because I just haven’t woken up fully yet. Sometimes it’s because my allergies make me feel horrid in the mornings. And sometimes it’s because I slept in and we need to be out the door in five minutes!
There are a multitude of reasons breakfast and I don’t get along, but I don’t think it’s fair that my kids have to suffer because of a long standing disagreement between me and breakfast.
I’m looking to improve my relationship with mornings. I already have a list of things I can do, such as go to bed earlier so I can get up earlier. Get everything organized at night so we’re ready to go in the morning. Give myself a little relaxing wake me up time in the mornings before the rush of the day. And, of course, breakfast. I do think eating a nutritious breakfast is going to help me throughout the day.
I decided to spearhead this mission by dressing breakfast up into something fast, simple and of course disguised as a dessert. I just said my breakfast needed to be nutritious, I didn’t say it couldn’t make me feel like I’m committing a breakfast taboo.
I’ve been making date balls for years now. They are a go to snack the whole family loves and no sugar added! Not to mention, they are easy to create and a great little boost of energy mid-day. With NaNoWriMo almost over, I thought I’d share this recipe as a little energy boost to get…
Lately I’ve been on a bit of a personal mission to revamp some of my favorite foods to fit better into the healthier lifestyle I’ve been working to create for myself. There are many recipes in my recipe box that could use a facelift, especially with the holidays charging at me full speed, and with all the potlucks and cookie swaps in my future I’m going to do my best to keep some control in the foods I’m preparing at home.
I was perusing the aisles at Walmart the other day and ran into a couple Weight Watchers® demo stands. The samples I tried were fantastic! I was loving the information I found on the nutrition labels and it gave me the bright idea to use Weight Watchers products to help me revamp some of my favorite recipes.
We love homemade corn dogs in this house. I love making things homemade because I get to choose what I put in them, so I know exactly what my family is eating. We haven’t had corn dogs for quite a while so the kids were excited when I told them we were going to make some for lunch!
