Novel Ideas in 30 Minutes or Less

Have you ever wanted to write a book? Maybe a 70,000 word novel or a best selling children’s book?  These have both been dreams of mine for longer than I remember and I’ve discovered the only thing stopping me is me.

Plot ideas for novels have never been a problem for me. There are a ton of them swimming around in my head and floating around in notebooks scattered through the house. With all of these novel ideas it seems like I should be cranking out the books.

It’s not that easy though. Sometimes the idea of writing a book is so daunting the overwhelm gets the best of me. You might have a similar story.

I wanted to address the overwhelm issue of writing, so I decided the best way is to break it up into something more palatable.

Godfrey-Smith starts out by providing insight into how he developed a passion for studying cephalopods. He highlighted this interest with a discussion of the evolutionary path. It doesn’t take him long to state what he wants to accomplish in this book:

1001 Books to Read Before I Die (and then some)

Inspired by Peter Boxall’s 1001 Books: You Must Read Before You Die, at the beginning of 2018 I decided to create my own list of books to read. What amazed me the most is just by creating this list I gained quite a bit of inspiration and historical insight. That’s something I wasn’t expecting, but made me even more excited to read some of these books.

This list contains both fiction and nonfiction selections I’m interested in reading for one reason or another. Many were recommendations from friends or books that won some kind of award. Some of the books on the list will be books I’ve read in the past, but want to read again to see if I glean anything new from them now that I’m older and hopefully wiser. All of the books are of interest to me. You’ll notice a good deal of psychology, philosophy and science books on the list.

This past month I’ve been thinking about all the achievements my kids have had in their short lives. Especially those achievements they have a hard time recognizing as an accomplishment. Sometimes it’s hard to see that even a little progress is an achievement even if you haven’t reached the final goal. It’s also not always…

Respect shows itself in different ways. Everything from the respect we give someone who’s older than us, respect we show authority, and even our own self-respect. You can show it, earn it, give it, even expect it. This month, in line with the #SunshineYourFeed challenge, we’re going to explore the many faces of respect in…

Summer is just around the corner and I’m ready for some rest and relaxation! It’s vacation season! We’ve already taken a couple day trips this year so far, but I’m looking forward to some more adventures. We’re more of a spontaneous family so you never know when or where we’ll decide to pick up and…

I love journaling. One of my favorite types of journals is a list journal. Basically, this is just a journal where you create lists about anything you want to create a list about. Sometimes I want to write, but I don’t know what to write about, or I’m not looking for any kind of deep…

I really do hope April showers bring May flowers, because wow it was a rainy April this year. The kids are okay with that because they had plenty of opportunities to play in the rain and picked up some brand new rain boots for puddle hopping. This month we’re talking about creativity. Not only will…

I’ve always loved the saying laughter is the best medicine, even though I know that a good dose of medical treatment usually doesn’t hurt either. My girls are beyond excited for April Fools Day. However, around here, we never need to wait to find a good laugh in any situation. My youngest loves to read…
