I love to create fun gifts for friends and family, and I thought it was about time to come up with something new that I knew some of my favorite people would love. A filled mason jar is always a hit and with limited edition Skittles America Mix available on Amazon, I had the perfect idea. With Skittles sweetness in signature American colors; All American Thank You Jars was it.
Two things inspired this post. The first was our first outing for the Nebraska Great Park Pursuit, the second was my first viewing of Disney’s The Finest Hours, which is about the greatest small boat rescue the U.S. Coast Guard has ever completed.
I know, you’re already thinking what does the Coast Guard have to do with Nebraska. I’ll admit, probably not as much as they do closer to the oceans and coasts, however believe it or not, Nebraska does have a Coast Guard and it does have a purpose!
Let’s start with the Great Park Pursuit, this is something we started doing last year and it was so much fun we decided to do it again. Here in Nebraska the state Game & Parks puts on this summer long event encouraging people to visit city and state parks across Nebraska. They have twenty parks selected throughout the state and at each park they put a pedestal that has this little engraved image. You find the pedestal, don’t worry, they give clues and basically tell you where to find it, then you do a rubbing of the image on a little form which you’ll send back to game & parks. Visit one park and you’re already eligible for prizes!
Moving is never easy. Throw in the hassle of a military oriented move and things are only going to get more complicated. My husband is in the National Guard so moving for us is a bit different than the Active Duty soldiers, however a lot of the same moving advice applies.
There can be a lot of shuffle in the Guard, everything from units changing location to my husband changing units. In some cases the move is nothing more than an hour difference in travel times, but for others it can be up to a 10 hour drive from our current location meaning we need to move to a new home.
Happy Veterans Day! This is a day that means a lot to me. I’m not a Veteran, but my father was, my father-in-law is, and my husband currently serves. Not only do I celebrate Veterans Day for these amazing individuals, but I celebrate it for all of the amazing people, both men and women, I…
A couple of years ago I wrote a blog post about what not to write to soldiers in letters. The post took off and is still my most viewed blog post to date. I had no idea this blog post would be such a help to others. I still receive comments on it and emails…
