The early spring colds have finally left our household, allergens are down for the moment and I’m feeling energized! I’ve had a lot of creative energy running through me lately, so I thought it was about time to share some of that creative inspiration with the world. That’s right, this month’s #SunshineYourFeed social media challenge…

Last year we had our first Worlds of Fun Adventure. It was our first visit to the park and we were glad we went. This year, we were familiar with the park so we took on some favorite attractions from last year, and made sure we hit up some of the things we missed from last year.

Some of the rides we missed last year weren’t actually missed. They just weren’t there last year! That’s right, Worlds of Fun has two new thrill rides! Mustang Runner and Falcon’s Flight.

It’s the end of 2016 and I’m gearing up for a new year. With all of the hustle and bustle of the season I thought it would be a good idea to do a bit of reflection on the past year here at Living a Sunshine Life. I’ve been through quite a bit and it’s…

The new year is here! 2017 is just around the corner and we’ll be doing a motivation challenge to give the year a jump start. While it’s better to get started on a project than procrastinate, there is just something about the feeling of a blank slate in the new year. The challenge this month focuses on…

I’ve done some soul searching and business thinking. A little vision building and needs analysis. All of this with a little dose of what my lifestyle is all about, since this is a lifestyle blog after all, and I’ve determined it’s time to make a few changes around here. Don’t worry, it’s not going to change…

Holiday Traditions with Glory

I can’t believe it’s been five years to the day since we adopted Glory. It seems like she’s been a part of our family for a lot longer than that.

When we adopted Glory we received no information about her other than what the humane society learned about her in the short time she was with them. She was a stray, about three years old at the time, and she was healthy and spayed according to the medical information.

That was it.

We had to learn everything else ourselves. It’s been a lot of fun getting to know her over the past year, and thanks to my ambassadorship with Beneful, you’ve had the opportunity to learn a bit more about her too.

We’ve shared about our dream for a reactive dog friendly dog park, as well as our own methods of making sure she gets enough exercise. You’ve probably learned that she’s got a good face for photographs, and she’s not too bad at making cute videos.

Breakfast in Bed with the Kids with a Paper Flower Tutorial

One of my favorite morning treats is when the kids decide to make me breakfast in bed. A slice of buttered toast with a glass of milk used to be the extent of their culinary prowess. Now I’m happy to say they’ve expanded their menu to build a better breakfast. They can now include toasted Lender’s bagels and Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions to the Great Value milk they already know how to pour.

The girls are beyond proud of themselves for their expanding breakfast building skills, and I don’t blame them. I wanted to teach them how to give breakfast in bed another touch of love, so I pulled out some colored paper and taught the kids how to make a simple paper flower.

Another thing I want to teach the kids about adding a touch of love is through helping others. Join Feeding America in The Great American Milk Drive to help deliver highly desired and nutrient-rich gallons of milk to hungry children and families who need it most. More than 14 million servings of milk have been delivered to food banks through this first-of-its-kind initiative.

Dream Dog Park for Reactive Dogs

After we adopted Glory we wanted to make sure we could take her out to do things with us that she would enjoy. Obviously dog park visits were on the list because we wanted a big open space for her to run for exercise and fun, not to mention getting social with other dogs.

Safety is always the number one goal with dogs, both for our dog, other dogs and of course the people around us. A key safety practice for introducing dogs to new parks is to go when it’s not busy so the dog isn’t stressed and can get familiar with the sights and sounds. It’s also a great way for the owners to get familiar with the local dog park rules. When we took Glory, she did great. She mostly hung out around the fenceline sniffing out the other dogs who had visited the park.

What better way to celebrate a sunshine life than with sunny side up eggs for breakfast! I know this isn’t the way everyone likes their eggs, and for some people it’s cringe worthy. For many other people, myself included, this is the best way to enjoy morning eggs, it just takes a little bit of…
