It’s my favorite time of year again! Today is the first day of Fall and I’m celebrating with a delicious apple recipe. Every year we go to the apple orchards to pick apples, unfortunately I wasn’t feeling well on the day we had planned so we didn’t get to go. With the orchard being an hour drive away, I’m happy to report that I can still find a wide variety of apples at Bakers!

I know Halloween over a month away, but I wanted to share this printable activity a little early to give you time to have fun with it this year. If Halloween isn’t your thing, I also have a Fall Bucket List that is similar, but not specific to the holiday. This printable includes a collection…
Omaha Children’s Museum is our local children’s museum. We don’t always have a chance to make it downtown to visit, but when we do we want to make sure we get the most of it. To help you out I’ve jotted down some tips to help you plan your visit to your own local children’s museum to make it all run a little more smooth so you and your kids get the most out of it.
I was thrilled to take my kids to Worlds of Fun for their very first visit. Honestly, I was excited because my husband had never been here either, and I’ve only visited once in my life, over thirty years ago when I was about four years old. Basically, this was a first time visit for everyone since I don’t really have too many memories of Worlds of Fun, plus, over thirty years I’m sure there were a lot of changes.
Since we are from the Omaha area, and I knew this was going to be an all day event I didn’t want us to arrive in Kansas City tired from the drive, so we spent the night at a hotel in the area. Had we prepared ourselves, we could have stayed the night at the park at Worlds of Fun Village! We would have been right next to both Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. By the way, did you know your Worlds of Fun ticket will also get you into Oceans of Fun! I had no idea, but next time we’ll wear our suits so we can hit up both parks.
We arrived at the park right at opening time, ten in the morning. There were lines of cars to get into the park, yet I was impressed at how fast they moved. The Worlds of Fun parking staff was efficient, and extremely friendly too. Questions about where we needed to go and advice on parking were answered clearly and with a smile. Actually, we didn’t meet anyone at the park who wasn’t friendly. I was impressed with everyone there. Smiles, conversational, welcoming, professional, and safe. The staff in all areas was fantastic, and I could tell safety and guest experience were top on their priority lists.
Part of being a responsible dog owner is making sure your dog gets enough exercise. With Glory we’re on top of this task. We make sure to keep her busy throughout the day to help her work up a good appetite. I don’t think there’s an activity she doesn’t enjoy, unless it’s a game of frisbee. But, I told you all about that a few months back.
Today I’m sharing with you a variety of activities Glory does enjoy.
People are always asking me how I met my husband since we didn’t go to highschool together yet we met before college. Our eleven year wedding anniversary is this weekend, so I thought I’d share the story with you. I mean, I did tell you the story about how our marriage almost didn’t happen, I…
Adopting Glory and the years after getting to know each other has been a whirlwind of emotions. Everything from getting me used to owning a dog, something I hadn’t done since I was seven, to helping me forgive the destructive tendencies of a newly adopted, anxious, pet who we don’t have the history on and she can’t tell us. There have been a lot of great moments with her too, such as teaching her to play and discovering what games she loves. Tug. She loves tug. To seeing her communicate her preferences in comfy spots to sleep (always on my big comfy blankets on top of the kids bean bags. So much better than her own big expensive bed). And don’t forget the expressive nature of her eyebrows. She has truly shown us that yes, dogs have their own thoughts, interests and emotions. Glory is definitely a loved part of our family.
Two things inspired this post. The first was our first outing for the Nebraska Great Park Pursuit, the second was my first viewing of Disney’s The Finest Hours, which is about the greatest small boat rescue the U.S. Coast Guard has ever completed.
I know, you’re already thinking what does the Coast Guard have to do with Nebraska. I’ll admit, probably not as much as they do closer to the oceans and coasts, however believe it or not, Nebraska does have a Coast Guard and it does have a purpose!
Let’s start with the Great Park Pursuit, this is something we started doing last year and it was so much fun we decided to do it again. Here in Nebraska the state Game & Parks puts on this summer long event encouraging people to visit city and state parks across Nebraska. They have twenty parks selected throughout the state and at each park they put a pedestal that has this little engraved image. You find the pedestal, don’t worry, they give clues and basically tell you where to find it, then you do a rubbing of the image on a little form which you’ll send back to game & parks. Visit one park and you’re already eligible for prizes!
Gargoyles. Stone creatures created for the practical purposes of directing water away from the masonry of buildings in architecture and possess the psychological purposes, from what I’ve read, as both guardians of the building they are situated on, or reminders of evil and the reason you need the church to protect you in medieval times. I’ve always preferred…

It’s spring again and getting our garden planted has been top on our list, but weather and busy schedules have been holding us back. Not to mention, technically we’re still waiting to make sure…
