Too much stuff around the house means more clutter and more stress. It’s time to take on the extra baggage around the house and start getting rid of some things, finding new homes for others, and putting a stop to the unfinished projects around the house.
For the past several months I’ve been gradually working toward a minimalist lifestyle. The results have been fantastic! Less stress, less things to try to find space for, and more time to do the things I love.
Even though I’ve been working on this lifestyle change for the past several months I still have a long way to go. There is plenty in my house I need to declutter still, and plenty of impulse spending I need to get a handle on. Part of this is going to mean being more mindful in the things I do by prioritizing and thinking about how much I really want or need something.
Minimalism can be a challenge, but it’s a challenge well worth the effort. In the end the results are similar to what I’ve already been experiencing, though with a bigger impact.
One aspect of minimalism is decluttering. Getting rid of things that don’t serve you in any way, making the most of what you do have by finding the best storage space for it, and using the storage space you do have rather than adding even more storage. The point is to have less stuff, not cram even more shelving or boxes into your house.
52 Week Decluttering Challenge
For the next 52 weeks I’ll be hosting a decluttering challenge. Every Sunday I’ll post a new challenge on the Living a Sunshine Life VIP Facebook Group, along with links to resources to help you accomplish your goal.
You’re in charge of how much or little you participate. You’re welcome to comment on the posts for advice, support, or motivation. Share your accomplishments, big or small, and enjoy the freedom you’ll experience of having fewer things around the house.
If a challenge for one week doesn’t apply to you, for example a challenge related to pets but you don’t have pets, feel free to go back to a challenge for a past week, or substitute something else.
Some weeks will be more challenging than others in general. Some weeks will be more challenging for you than other people and vice versa. We all have our own unique situations, so don’t feel bad if one week doesn’t work for you. I guarantee if I come down with the flu and it lasts for a week, I probably won’t be participating that week. Take care of yourself first!
Let me know if you have questions and let the decluttering begin!
Join the Living a Sunshine Life VIP Facebook Group to access the Sunday decluttering challenges, starting January 7, 2018.

Ooh! This is so handy. I just tried my hand at writing a post on decluttering, but I have a feeling this will be much more insightful! Looking forward to this challenge, I definitely need some help hauling out old stuff that I just can’t seem to part with.
We’ve had cookie sales all month, and I’m finishing out the week healing from a stomach bug, but I’m hoping to get some more tips up to compliment the challenge! Good luck!!! Updating this post to include links to each weekly challenge is also on my to do list. There’s definitely more to come with this challenge.
